As the star spangled banner is brought out with a drum roll.

July 4 th is just around the corner. We, New Yorkers, hope the weather predictions hold up just one day for that sultry summer barbecue. Like many others we are planning to hold our annual get together with friends and family to celebrate freedom, food, friendship and summer of course.

If you are like me then you not just decide what is going to be the menu but also rake your brain for innovative decoration ideas. After all what is a party with its theme appropriate décor? Since we will have a full house with adults, kids and dogs, it’s imperative to decorate with both child and dog-friendly items around.

This year’s party is going to be unlike the several past. I have a meddling toddler who loves to help her mommy with every craft project. Also did I mention? I try to create these decorations at home. Those two things don’t gel very well together. However in my impertinence I decided I had to create something new and unique. But more than anything whatever it was had to be a quick and easy things to dish out.

What I came up with was an instant hit with my daughter, so I knew other kids would enjoy it as well. It was easy to create and quick to assemble. It could adorn the center of my table décor easily.

If you would like to follow along, the directions are below.

What you need

  • A mason jar (Or any jar that you have at home. I am a hoarders dream! I love collecting the jars that contain the cucumber pickle at grocery store with a dream that one day they will be useful to me in crafty endeavors. The crafty me jumped with joy!)
  • Water
  • Glitter
  • Decorative stars
  • Pipes or toothpicks
  • Glue gun

Unscrew the cap of the jar and turn it inside out. With the help of a gun, stick the decorative stars with toothpicks to create a semblance of the fireworks. Fill it with water and add glitter to the mix. And there you have it people, just like that a wonderful and unique display is ready for July 4th.

Here is wishing everyone a very happy July 4th. I hope all of you and employed in something exciting even if it means relaxing your lazy bones with nothing to do.
